// business consulting, Northern Ireland

Your business has a leak. We find it. Business consulting that actually changes the numbers.

Most companies don't need more ideas. They need someone to sit with the spreadsheet, trace the bottleneck, and tell them the truth. That's what we do at Profound Biz Insights: forensic, honest business consulting for owner-managed firms across Northern Ireland and beyond.

Six problems we solve every month

We don't offer a vague menu of "solutions." Each engagement starts with a specific problem, and we stay until the numbers confirm it's resolved. Here are the issues clients bring to us most often.

Revenue leakage

Pricing inconsistencies, unbilled work, discounting habits that creep in over years. We audit your revenue chain line by line and typically find 6–14% in recoverable income within the first four weeks.

Operational drag

When a 10-person team produces what a 7-person team should, the issue is rarely laziness. It's process debt. We map your workflows, remove redundant steps, and set measurable cycle-time targets.

Cash-flow crises

Profitable on paper, broke on Tuesday. We rebuild your cash-flow forecasting model, renegotiate payment terms with key suppliers, and install a 13-week rolling forecast you can actually maintain yourself.

Founder dependency

If the business can't run for two weeks without you, it's not a business yet. We design delegation frameworks, hire the right second-in-command profile, and build decision-making protocols that stick.

Growth-stage strategy

You've hit £1m–£5m in turnover and the playbook that got you here won't get you further. We build a 24-month strategic roadmap: market positioning, pricing tiers, channel mix, and the hire sequence that supports each phase.

Pre-sale preparation

Thinking about an exit in the next two to five years? We clean up the financials, document the IP, reduce owner-dependency, and position the business to attract serious buyers rather than tyre-kickers.

From first call to measurable change

We keep the process tight. Most diagnostic engagements wrap in eight weeks. Longer strategic builds run 12–16 weeks with monthly check-ins after that.

1. The diagnostic call (free, 30 minutes)

You describe the problem. We ask pointed questions about revenue, margins, team structure, and recent decisions. By the end, we'll tell you whether we can help and roughly what it will cost. No pitch deck, no pressure.

2. Data immersion (week 1–2)

We request your P&L, balance sheet, CRM export, and org chart. We interview two or three key staff members. Everything stays under NDA. The goal is to see the business the way the numbers see it, not the way the founder describes it.

3. Findings report (week 3)

A written document, usually 12–18 pages, covering the root causes we identified, the estimated financial impact of each, and the recommended fixes ranked by effort and return. We present it in person or over video and take questions until you're satisfied.

4. Implementation support (week 4–8)

If you want us to stay and help execute, we work alongside your team. We attend weekly stand-ups, own specific deliverables, and track KPIs in a shared dashboard. Our fee is fixed for this phase; no hourly surprises.

5. Handover and review (week 9+)

We hand over all templates, SOPs, and dashboards. Sixty days later we do a free check-in call to see what held and what drifted. If something needs adjusting, we'll tell you directly.

Results from real engagements

Client names are anonymised per our NDA terms. The figures were verified against management accounts at the close of each engagement.

+23% gross margin
Food manufacturing, 42 employees, County Antrim

Identified £310k in annual ingredient waste caused by a single supplier's inconsistent pack sizes. Renegotiated the contract and introduced weigh-in checks at goods-in. Margin improvement appeared within 11 weeks.

£180k recovered annually
Professional services firm, 18 staff, Belfast

The firm was writing off an average of 14 hours per consultant per month as "non-billable admin." We restructured their time-tracking system and reassigned three admin tasks to a single coordinator role. Billable utilisation rose from 61% to 78%.

Sale at 5.8× EBITDA
E-commerce retailer, £3.2m turnover, Derry

Over 14 months we reduced owner involvement from 55 hours/week to under 10, documented all supplier relationships, and cleaned three years of management accounts. The business sold to a UK trade buyer at a multiple the owner initially thought unrealistic.

Cash reserves tripled
Construction subcontractor, 28 staff, Newry

Chronic late payment from two anchor clients was draining working capital. We restructured invoice terms, introduced milestone billing, and set up a credit-control process. Within six months the company held three times its previous cash reserve.

Things people ask before they hire us

What size of company do you typically work with?

Owner-managed businesses turning over between £500k and £10m. Below that threshold the consulting fee rarely pays for itself quickly enough; above it, you likely need a larger firm with sector-specific bench strength. Our sweet spot is the 10–80 employee range where founder decisions still drive most outcomes.

How much does an engagement cost?

A diagnostic-only engagement (the findings report) runs between £3,500 and £6,000 depending on complexity. If we stay for implementation support, the total usually lands between £12,000 and £25,000 for an eight-week programme. We quote a fixed fee before any work starts. No day-rate ambiguity.

Do you work with companies outside Northern Ireland?

Yes. About a third of our clients are in England or Scotland. We do the data-immersion phase remotely and travel for the findings presentation and key implementation workshops. The diagnostic call is always remote regardless of location.

What if the diagnostic finds nothing significant?

It hasn't happened yet in 137 engagements, but if it did, we'd say so. The report would confirm that your operations are sound and suggest minor optimisations rather than a full implementation phase. You'd still pay the diagnostic fee because the work was done, but we'd never invent problems to justify a larger project.

Who actually does the work?

Our principal consultant leads every engagement. On larger builds we bring in one associate with relevant sector experience. You'll never be handed off to a junior analyst you haven't met. The person on the diagnostic call is the person reading your P&L.

How do you measure success?

Every engagement starts with a target metric: gross margin percentage, billable utilisation, cash conversion cycle, or whatever fits the problem. We track that number weekly during implementation and report the before/after delta at handover. If the number didn't move, we failed. Simple as that.
